Rio Soul Dance Shoes & New Zumba Cha Cha

Hey Zumba dancers!

By the way, if you have not yet gotten some dance shoes, you can check out these totally awesome colorful pairs from Rio Soul. They are very light and comfortable – almost like a slipper or sock.  They do not provide a lot of support or cushion, so if your feet need arch support you will have to add an insole.  But the colors are so much fun – and they’re made in Brazil near my husband’s family’s home!

And on a completely different topic – If you want to combine your leg squats with some cha cha, here you go:

and with music:

Please note that Cha Cha dancing is from Cuba / the Caribbean / New York and not from Brazil.  The two topics on this post are only related by what I’m wearing on my feet in the video.

Quebradita coming to you!

I’ve had a lot of comments in class the past few weeks, “Wow – that was a really good workout today!” or “You really killed us last week!”

I give the credit to our newest addition – Quebradita from Mexico.  This amazingly energetic and bouncy style will really give you a workout.  So grab your cowboy hat and try out these steps.

Zumba class performs at GoogleMela

Every Friday at 5 pm I teach a Zumba class (latin cardio dance mix) at Google.

I was super proud of these 5 ladies who were brave enough to perform a cumbia from class onstage at GoogleMela!  As part of this International Cultural Festival they were representing Columbia / Venezuela – the home of cumbia.

Particular thanks to Susan for dealing (repeatedly) with costumes, as well as Debby and Katie for making up a partner dance part when I never gave you one!  Thank you to Minya for dancing in multiple numbers and helping keep the group together, and a particular thank you to Zhongli for being so brave to perform.

See you all in class!

Authentic Zumba from Beto Perez

Hello Latin Dancers!

So usually I make up my own choreography, but there are some new Zumba steps that we will be using in class coming directly from the source – Beto Perez – the founder of Zumba.

Here are two short videos of the steps that we will be using, one for salsa:

and one for calypso:

Which is so much fun! Awesome bouncing lasso goodness.
Sometimes I can see how this guy founded a fitness revolution.

Go Beto!

See you in class,
Anna

Most fun Cha Cha

So DLG has a cute track called, “DLG’s Got a Hook on Me”, it’s pretty catchy and fun to dance to as well.

By the way, this is off an album called “Afro Cubano volume 19″.  It’s one of these compilations made specifically for ballroom dancers by a company called Casa Musica.  It can be hard to find in stores, but shop around and see if you find it anywhere.

The rest of the album is quite nice, you’ll recognize a lot of sambas and cha chas that I use in class.  If you buy the whole album though, it will have Paso Doble and Jive on it – perhaps not as useful?  =)

Here’s the cha cha steps:

And here’s a little bit of the dance with the song:

See you in ZUMBA class!

Zumba style Bellydance to “Snake Dance”

Hey Around the World and ZUMBA dancers,

Here’s a little fusion belly dance that we’ll be doing to DJ Aradia’s “Snake Dance”.
Zumba always makes an effort to simplify various styles so that everyone can do them. Thus these steps are not traditional bellydance, but a sort of modified form that everyone can enjoy. See you in class on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 pm!

and with the music:

Flamenco and Bellydance – all in one!

This is a great Zumba track called “La Fiesta” – it uses both flamenco and belly dance music for a fun workout.

And here it is with the music:

Here’s some tips on Flamenco dancing for those who are new to the style – it’s lots of fun and you get to make some noise.  And here’s a little history of flamenco, quite interesting stuff!  =)

See you in class!

Muevete – Urban Salsa

Hey Zumba Dancers,

Hope you enjoy this new salsa choreography to “Muevete” – the Zumba version of the song.

and with music:

If you’re interested in more salsa, I’m going to be teaching a partner dance salsa series in August at Decathlon Club.  You don’t need to be a member to take the class, just contact me to sign up!  We will meet Thursday nights at 8 pm in August.

Baila Esta Cumbia

A great little cumbia tribute to Selena by A.B. Quintanilla III & Kumbia Kings, here’s the steps for our new cumbia for ZUMBA class:

And here’s the steps with some music:

See you in class soon!

Daniela Mercury Samba

Daniela Mercury is a very popular Brazilian singer, specializing in various regional styles like samba, axe, and MPB.  We’re using her song “Ile Perola Negra” (the black pearl) for a new samba for ZUMBA class!

Here are the steps:

and here are the steps with a little bit of music:
