New Bollywood Dances

Hi guys!

Sorry I’ve been so slow with making videos – the Google dance studio has eaten my life. =)

We’ve done a few new Bollywood dances, first to Mast Kalandar from “Heyy Babyy”:
Here are the steps slowly:

and here it is with music:

The second dance we’ve done lately is Zoobie Doobie from 3 Idiots:
Here are the steps:

Thanks for coming to class! It’s always great to see you… for those who haven’t been in awhile, the Oracle Bollywood class is on Fridays at 11 am. I have also been teaching these Bollywood routines in Around the World class at Google, Tuesday and Thursday at 4 pm. Finally, we do at least one Bollywood in Zumba class, Mondays at 8:20 am at Reach, or Thursdays at 10 am at 24 hr fitness.

See you soon!

Oracle Diwali videos

Yeah! We finally have some videos of the Bollywood dance performances at the Oracle Diwali celebration.

Here’s the video from Desi Girl performance:

and Here’s the video from Marjaani performance:

All Oracle employees and family members are welcome to take Bollywood dance class at Oracle on Fridays at 3 pm, see you then!

Google Oktoberfest Performances

The culinary team strikes again with another great party at Google – this time celebrating the German Oktoberfest.  The culinary team had great food, great beer, some cute beer hostesses to serve the beer, an impressive 20 piece German brass band… and US!

I enjoyed choreographing three dances for our performances, and wrangled up three different teams of dancers to perform.

I was super proud of our newbie polka group – most of these dancers had never danced polka before, and they did such a great job!  They learned this routine in just 3 weeks.  Thanks to Piyush for extra costume prep, and to Robin for sticking around to Emcee!

At the afternoon lull we performed a Lady’s Landler Waltz.  This one incorporated redowa, mazurka, and waltz steps (as well as some folk dance figures) and a whole lot of cuteness.  Shouts out to Katie for being an incredibly hair braider, and thanks to Deb for rushing back to town to learn this and the help with the choreography wraps.  Thank you to Merry for pulling it all together!!

And last but certainly not least, we performed a Zweifacher.  This is a crazy difficult kind of dance that mixes waltzes and pivots to match the uneven timing in the music.  It also has lots and lots of spinning that makes all the dancers dizzy as well!  I was very impressed with how well Christina, Paul, Tina, Daniel, and Scott handled this challenging choreography – they even got compliments from the traditional German band who were impressed that they tackled a Zweifacher.  Whoot!

Thanks again to culinary for the commission to perform and assistance with costumes, and thank you to all who turned out to watch the show!

Discowale Khisko Bollywood Routine

Whew – I didn’t realize these steps were going to be quite so tiring!  I’m going to have to come up with some routines that are a little more mellow, eh?

Anyways, from the new movie Dil Bole Hadippa, here are the steps for “Discowale Khisko”:

And here’s the first part with the music:

And make sure to check out the original video, it’s pretty fun, too!

Latin Jazz Rumba Routine – Do you only want to dance

Hey Latin Jazz dancers,

Had a great time dancing with you all this past week, and I finally did videos!

Here’s the steps for our latest routine to Mya’s “Do you only want to dance” from the Dirty Dancing Havana soundtrack.

See you in class soon!

Latin Jazz goes traditional

Hey dancers!

So we’ve been going all over the board with bolero, rumba, hip hop, salsa, and all kinds of latin jazz.

I thought I would take us back to a more traditional style cha cha to work on some basic technique and styling – so here with go:

explanation of the steps:

and with counts:

and with music:

It’s always good to go back to traditional style – but not necessarily in clothes.  The costumes they used to use for cha cha… hm…. let’s say it’s good that some things evolve.

Looking forward to seeing you soon in class!

Rio Soul Dance Shoes & New Zumba Cha Cha

Hey Zumba dancers!

By the way, if you have not yet gotten some dance shoes, you can check out these totally awesome colorful pairs from Rio Soul. They are very light and comfortable – almost like a slipper or sock.  They do not provide a lot of support or cushion, so if your feet need arch support you will have to add an insole.  But the colors are so much fun – and they’re made in Brazil near my husband’s family’s home!

And on a completely different topic – If you want to combine your leg squats with some cha cha, here you go:

and with music:

Please note that Cha Cha dancing is from Cuba / the Caribbean / New York and not from Brazil.  The two topics on this post are only related by what I’m wearing on my feet in the video.

Quebradita coming to you!

I’ve had a lot of comments in class the past few weeks, “Wow – that was a really good workout today!” or “You really killed us last week!”

I give the credit to our newest addition – Quebradita from Mexico.  This amazingly energetic and bouncy style will really give you a workout.  So grab your cowboy hat and try out these steps.

and with the music:

and by the way, if you think that what we’re doing is tough, check this.

Latest Hip Hop Steps

I had a great time at the 2009 Zumba convention, and one of the highlights was taking hip hop from Gina Grant and her awesome team of hip hop friends.  There was a guy from Singapore and a guy from Taiwan who taught short hip hop routines, and then Gina took over for the rest of the hour – tres cool.

I used a few of their steps (ignoring the slightly femme ones) and here’s the latest hip hop steps we’re using at Google:

and with the counts:

Looking forward to seeing you every Monday and Wednesday at 7!

Marjaani with Music:

The dance captain for Desi Girl is Vidya Tiru is for Marjaani is Cristal Tsang. They will be contacting you all soon to set up your rehearsals for during the week. I know that many of you are excited to dance in both numbers, but do be aware that there will be lots of rehearsals. If you think you will not be able to go to all the rehearsals, you might want to pick just one dance to perform.

Thank you all for your great energy and fun style, I will see you Friday at 3 pm for class, and review of the steps directly after.
