Zumba style Bellydance to “Snake Dance”
Hey Around the World and ZUMBA dancers,
Here’s a little fusion belly dance that we’ll be doing to DJ Aradia’s “Snake Dance”.
Zumba always makes an effort to simplify various styles so that everyone can do them. Thus these steps are not traditional bellydance, but a sort of modified form that everyone can enjoy. See you in class on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 pm!

Zumba 2 – Roger Rocks
Shouts out to Roger Yamat, who leads a fabulous workshop.
I was very impressed with the quality of his choreography (easy to follow, yet creative, musical, and diverse). I liked the way that he demonstrated steps and interacted with his students. Of course, his timeliness, organization, and clarity of expression were also a welcome!
It was interesting learning the “4 more rhythms” introduced in the Zumba 2 workshop – Flamenco, Bellydance, Tango, and Samba. I’ve already been doing a lot of samba in my Zumba classes, but I’m excited to use some new steps in these three other categories. Sadly it seems that tango is really just not meant to be a cardio exercise. I was hoping that Roger would have some ideas on how to make this dance more cardio-tastic, but I think it’s going to have to be a cool down. I had to giggle at some of the “bellydance” steps. I know that Zumba has to water down the steps of each style so that they can be easily accessible to beginners. But some of the bellydance stuff was a little too ridiculous for me. What would Seba say??
I also really enjoyed hearing tips and advice from the other Zumba instructors who attended the workshop. Some of the marketing tips, ideas on how to make the classes more warm and welcoming, and overall teaching tips were great to think about. Thanks to all the enthusiastic Zumba dancers who helped me out today – it’s great for me to take these trainings to keep from burning out. It’s your energy and love of Zumba that helps renew me for all my classes.
If you were at the workshop, please feel free to add your thoughts in the comments below…
New Website – Welcome Google Around the World
Hello Around the World Dancers,
How are you all doing? How are you enjoying class? Let me know if the dances are getting too hard, or I’m doing too many new dances (I’m picking up the pace a little so we don’t have dances lingering for too long). But I don’t want to overwhelm you guys either.
Here’s a totally ghetto video of the simplified Scottish steps (the song is Fairy Dance by Ashley MacIsaac & Mary Jane Lamond):
I know this dance is challenging, but hopefully you will enjoy how much it strengthens your legs and core! Here are the same steps from the front:
As well we have a lovely new bellydance to Desert Groove (by Aradia & DJ Zen):
Sorry I’m not talking in these videos – there were other dances in the room trying to do 3 different things! Here are the bellydance steps from the back:
So let me know if you’d like to do 1 new dance per class, or 2 new dances per class (in that case the dance steps would be easier).
See you soon,
Anna
